Longer description:
CISAS LGG can launch both solid cylinders and sabots at a maximum velocity of 6 km/s. Sabots are separated by means of aerodynamic drag in the flight chamber and can carry projectiles in the diameter range 0.4 - 3 mm.
LGG MAIN PERFORMANCE
Speed range 0.3 - 6.0 km/s
Projectile mass 150 mg @ 6 km/s
500 g @ 300 m/s
Shot frequency up to 10 shots/day
Barrel diameter 4.76 or 6 mm
Barrel length 1.5 - 2.5 m

The facility is equipped with diagnostic equipment such as:
- projectile speed meaurements; - photographic system for 4 shadowgraphies (to image the impact event an the debris cloud) ; - acceleration measurments; - impact flash detection and characterization

Different fields of application, as esample:
- Impact experiments of planetary sciences
- Spacecraft Disturbances due to Hypervelocity Impact (under ESA contract)
- Test on CFRP panels (in collaboration with NAL-JAXA)
- Test campaign for MPLM (logistic module of ISS)
- Impact tests on tethers
- Test on ceramic foams
- Support for space instrument validation and qualification tests
