JRA2 Planetary Facilities and Field AnaloguesJRA2 has two objectives:
- Firstly, it will characterise two additional sites having the potential for TNA1 users: the Tunisian Chott El Jerid, a seasonal saline lake in an arid desert environment, and an example of geological fields modified by a deep impact in the area of the Popigai crater in Siberia. The first site will be available for Transnational Access as from 2011, while the Siberian site will be longer term outside the duration of the project.
- The second objective is to develop a unique simulation chamber capable of providing a suitable analogue of ice surfaces typical of those found on several planetary bodies and planetary moons, as that of Jupiterís moon Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. This activity will result in the delivery of a new facility supporting Transnational access as from 2011.
